Bull Elk Creek Ranch

Listing Price: $3,847,500

Bull Elk Creek Ranch is located in Teton County, Idaho, on the western side of the famous Teton Mountain Range.  This area is referred to as Teton Valley and is comprised of the small mountain towns of Victor, Driggs and Tetonia.  Bull Elk Creek Ranch is located in Tetonia just north of Driggs, which is the county seat and largest of the three towns.  Driggs offers all the services one needs including restaurants, grocery stores, shopping, golf, private air service and access to downhill skiing at Grand Targhee Ski and Summer Resort.  The resort town of Jackson Hole lies 35 minutes to the east and provides commercial air service, year-round recreation and countless cultural amenities.  Idaho Falls, the closest large city, is an hour’s drive from the ranch and hosts all metropolitan conveniences.

Bull Elk Creek Ranch is 422.32 contiguous deeded acres that are comprised of rolling farm ground interspersed with large stands of aspens and conifers trees.   Protective pockets of native vegetation can be found along the edges and the deeper swales on the ranch offer refuge for the area’s bird populations.   Large, privately held ranches surround this property providing plenty of open space and unobstructed views of the majestic Teton Mountain Range.    Approximately 380 acres are currently in dry barley operation with a neighboring ranch owner on a year-to-year lease.

The Teton River runs through the Teton Valley and is within close proximity to Bull Elk Creek Ranch.  Trophy size cutthroat and rainbow trout as well as the occasional brook trout inhabit this famous fishery.  With rolling meadows that meet majestic mountain vistas in all directions, the Teton River is understandably referred to in the Idaho Fly Fishing Guide as “the most scenic trout stream in North America”.   The Teton River is graced with an abundance of hatches of mayflies, stoneflies, caddis and midges while terrestrial patterns also work well in the late summer months.  Local outfitters report catching cutthroat trout as large as 23 inches and rainbow trout exceeding 24 inches.

Other rivers in the nearby vicinity include the Henry’s Fork, Bitch Creek, Fall River and the famed South Fork of the Snake River.  All of these rivers are easily accessible and are all within an hour’s drive with the South Fork being the farthest from the ranch at one hour.  The Henry’s Fork is a classic wild trout fishery, world renowned for its rainbows and browns.  This fishery is constantly changing due to the seasonal hatches, providing a variety of fantastic and nearly year-round floating opportunities.  From its inception near Island Park, the river takes on a spring creek and tailwater quality through the famous Railroad Ranch Section, transitioning into a freestone canyon habitat and back into a freestone meadow river above Ashton Reservoir.

In addition to the wild trout populations in the area, birds on the ranch are prevalent with populations of Bald eagles, Golden eagles, grouse, Hungarian partridge and a sustained huntable population of Sharp-tailed grouse. Careful management of the current agricultural operations on Bull Elk Creek Ranch will ensure a healthy population of birds onsite.  The adjacent Bull Elk Creek drainage offers refuge during the spring and fall months for migratory animals such as moose, elk and deer who make their way to the valley floor via this drainage while huntable populations of Mule deer exist onsite.
