While Durango is the most significant of the nearby towns, located approximately 15 minutes from the ranch, other nearby conveniences are available in the town of Hesperus. Hesperus is a small community outside Durango, known for its family-oriented ski hill, Ski Hesperus. Locals love this quiet and inexpensive winter playground in southwestern Colorado. A good part of Hesperus is lighted for night skiing, and there is a tubing hill for children. Featuring crowdless slopes and a full ski-school program, Ski Hesperus is family-oriented.
The main residence boats a custom 3,912 sqft adobe home with 4 bedrooms including two master suites and two offices. The focal point of Rancho Milagro is the 135’ x 230’ heated indoor arena. Utmost care went into the design allowing for the best ventilation, lighting, sound and insulation, specifically designed for efficiency. The indoor arena has four garage doors that can be opened for additional ventilation or access. The above ventilation system is state-of-the-art with the roofline allowing for natural light and the upgraded insulation keeping the arena cool in the summer and heating costs minimal in winter. Sand for the indoor arena was imported from the sand washes of New Mexico, and it is ideal for horses and upkeep.
There are four separate lodges within the arena each with its own entry. Entering the first lodge, the high rise ceilings, faux-finished walls and large log accents transport guests to mountain-style luxury. Two master suite bedrooms, each with a private spacious bathroom, provide views facing the soothing La Plata Mountains and spacious horse pasture. The fully-equipped kitchen has custom cabinetry with an open floor plan. There is a spacious laundry room and an extra guest bathroom with storage area.
Another complete living unit with private entrance has three bedrooms and three baths. This dwelling also has the artistry of high ceilings, log accents, faux-finished walls, equipped kitchen, laundry room, large bedrooms and bathrooms with wonderful accented living and bar areas. The two other units are suites, each with an extra large bedroom, kitchenette, dining and living space, large bathroom, high ceilings, picture windows, closet space and an adjoining door attaching to an identical unit. Between the two units there is a laundry room with a full washer and dryer.
The 9-stall horse barn segment of the arena is as well-designed as the living quarters. Each 12’ x 12’ stall is heated with an automatic Nelson waterer and outside 12’ x 40’ pen. One stall is a large 12’ x 24’ foaling stall. The birthing stall is in full view of the large medical office complete with refrigerator, desks and storage for supplies. The tack room is 30’ x 30’ with a large sliding door for extra-wide entry. There is rubber flooring for safe footing access on the stall side with easy cleaning. This area is also complete with a bathroom, audio and video capabilities and an indoor wash bay that is 12’ x 12’ for added convenience. In addition, an outdoor wash bay is available. The hay room is quite large with garage-sized entry doors on all sides. The center garage door is twice the size of an average garage door.
Rancho Milagro also contains a ranch manager or caretaker’s residence. It is a 1,864 sqft, 3 bedroom, 2 bath home with full views of the La Plata mountains. The home has a separate drive-in entry from the main building, and it has a 2-stall barn, with additional hay storage area and a corral for horses.
