Only minutes from the many amenities offered and provided in Jackson Hole, the 191 Ranch is located in Hoback Basin in western Wyoming. The small town of Bondurant is home to a summer population of 100 and provides a setting for a wonderful western Wyoming lifestyle.
The 30-minute scenic trip from Jackson through the Hoback Canyon that features many rocky crags and tributaries is one of the most stunning drives in the country. The ranch is situated in Sublette County with the historical agricultural town of Pinedale serving as the county seat. The 191 Ranch is situated in the Hoback Basin at the foothills of the Gros Ventre Mountain Range and the Gros Ventre Wilderness Area.
Commercial and private air services are available at the Jackson Hole airport, 12 miles north of Jackson and 40 miles north of the ranch. Pinedale also offers private air service. The ranch is easily accessible to the amenities of Jackson and Pinedale yet remote enough to enjoy Wyoming’s mountain sporting lifestyle.
The ranch consists of two adjoining parcels totaling approximately 114 acres and bordered on two sides by the Bridger-Teton National Forest. The Hoback River flows just off the western boundary of the property and is easily accessible. The acreage consists of the ranch headquarters, irrigated hay meadows and hillside upland pastures. The habitat consists of a transitional range from rolling foothills to alpine, granite and glacial peaks. The varied landscape ranges from riparian to mountain meadows, sage uplands to willow-bottom wetlands, aspen groves and old growth conifer stands.
The ranch headquarters were constructed in 2004. They include a nicely detailed 2,930 sqft home, a 3,500 sqft shop and equipment barn, a 1,100 sqft horse barn with stalls and tack room, a complete set of corrals and a 420 sqft guest or caretaker’s cabin. The setting offers gorgeous mountain views of Ramshorn Peak, Monument Ridge and the Hoback Canyon.
This location offers numerous fishing options, including the Hoback River only a five-minute walk from the ranch. This section of the river offers several excellent runs and pools providing spur of the moment opportunities while producing quality cutthroat trout fishing. Live water on the ranch is found in the spring-fed pond. The ranch also has water rights for irrigation and stock, which is diverted from the Hoback River. The renowned Green River is a 20-minute drive to the east from the 191 Ranch and offers fabulous fly fishing for large brown trout.
Currently the ranch acts as headquarters for the owner’s cattle operation and fall backcountry guiding services. The property serves owner’s summer yearling cattle operation and utilizes an adjoining Forest Service grazing allotment with the Hoback Cattle Association. The owner, an area outfitter and guide for the past 30 years, also continues to use the ranch for guiding operations that serve area outfitters for big game hunting on surrounding National Forest lands.
